Covid-19 testing
GP practice - enrolled and casual patients
We provide COVID testing for casual and enrolled patients free of charge.
Patients with symptoms of cold/flu: Please call us first, don't just turn up. We will discuss with you whether you need to see a GP that day. If you need an assessment and/or treatment we will make an appointment for you - usually that same day. You will be asked to drive around the back of the clinic and wait in your car for a clinician to come out and see you. A COVID test will be offered to you and we will notify you of the results once they are sent to us.
Patients without symptoms of cold/flu: We dont usually do COVID testing on patients who are medically well. If you dont need to see a GP for your health, we will refer you to the local Swab Clinic. If you are unsure, please call us.
There is a COVID Swabbing Clinic in Taupo that is open on week/weekend days depending on community requirements. It is not always open every day so it is best to check first. The clinic is at 79 Miro Street, Taupo. Opening hours are usually 9am to 3pm.
Pre-Travel COVID testing: Most pre-departure swabbing can be done at the local Pathlab facility. Charges apply. We can provide pre-travel COVID assessments and swabbing if the person travelling requires a Medical Certificate of Health as well as a pre-departure COVID test. Charges apply for this process. Once we have taken the swab you will need to take it to Pathlab for processing where Laboratory charges will also be applied. Please call us to discuss your requirements. It is best to call at least a week in advance of your departure date to ensure an appointment can be made within the required timeframes
Urgent Care Clinic
This urgent care clinic provides Covid-19 testing if you are unwell with cold/flu symptoms. We don't do COVID swabs on unsypmtomatic patients. Please call the clinic for more information.
Testing for Travel
This clinic provides pre-departure testing only for people who are travelling who require a Medical Certificate of Health as well as a swab. Please call to book an appointment.
