Doctors at Huapai
Dr Mauri Smits
Dr Mauri Smits joined The Doctors Huapai in February 2018.
Mauri, originally from The Netherlands, always wanted to travel and moved to New Zealand in 2017.
She is a Dutch trained GP with special interests in cardiovascular risk management, minor surgery, sexual health and lifestyle medicine.
With a young family, Mauri is experienced in family medicine and very much enjoys the continuity of care that general practice offers.
In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, camping, running and yoga.
Mauri is available for appointments four days a week at The Doctors Huapai until mid-September 2019 when she commences maternity leave.
Dr Hanneke Molthof
Hanneke was born and raised in the Netherlands. She undertook her medical and post graduate training at Amsterdam University.
She moved to New Zealand with her family in early 2019.
Before specialising in family practice, she worked as a surgical resident in the Netherlands for five years. Prior to that, she worked as a doctor in Africa and South America specialising in tropical medicine. These experiences have given her a wide range of skills and complement her current specialisation as a general practitioner.
She enjoys a wide variety of work that general practice offers, including minor skin surgery and IUD insertion.
Hanneke is married and has two small children. Her interests are surfing, tramping and enjoying fine food.
Dr Charles Sanders
Dr Charles Sanders trained at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He came to New Zealand in 1996 with his family to work for The Doctors New Lynn.
Diving medicine, minor surgery, geriatrics, wellness and healthy ageing are just some of his particular fields of interest.
"The Doctors Huapai is a very friendly and family orientated medical centre," says Charles.
In his spare time, Charles is kept very busy tending to his sheep on his family's lifestyle block.
Dr Malcolm Miller
Dr Malcolm Miller is a GP with a sense of adventure. He joined the team in June 2019 and works at The Doctors Huapai three weeks per month.
Malcolm is a New Zealand trained GP who graduated from The University of Auckland in 2008.
He carried out his GP training in Auckland working at Kaipara Medical Centre, Lincoln Road Medical Centre and Waimauku Doctors.
Malcolm is vocationally registered, which means he has carried out further study and has passed comprehensive examinations set by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
In addition to these examinations Malcolm has committed to an ongoing programme of study to keep up-to-date with the advances in general practice.
His participation in this study programme is audited. Passing the examinations and the commitment to the study programme confers on Malcom the status of specialist in general practice and is your assurance that this doctor is practicing to a high standard.
Malcolm is interested in helping people help themselves with long term chronic conditions such as diabetes and mental health problems.
"The Doctors Huapai has a good team culture. The practice serves the community well and lives up to its patient focused message," says Malcolm.
