Profile

Hilary Strang graduated with a B.D.S.from Otago University in 1991. She went straight into a large private practice in Richmond, Nelson. There she had a chance to develop her confidence and skills with the support of 4 experienced dentists. She then went on her O.E. for two years, experiencing several short-term positions in the U.K and having a wonderful time travelling through Europe and Africa. Hilary returned to NZ in 1995 and moved to Southland to settle, and to take up an Assistant Dentist position with Craig Waterhouse. She bought a half-share of the practice in 1997. Craig’s experience and knowledge in running a practice was passed on to Hilary over the years, so that she was confident to take over fully when he left in 2008. Hilary is comfortable providing most aspects of general dentistry but has a special interest in endodontics (root canal treatment). She enjoys treating children and gets a lot of satisfaction from being able to help nervous patients feel more at ease. Hilary has been a member of the NZ Dental Association since she graduated and enjoys the contact and support of her fellow colleagues. Hilary is married to Murray, a born-and-bred Southlander, and manages to juggle the needs of her two busy children with running the practice and being a dentist. When time permits, she attempts to stay fit by walking and enjoys a good book.
