The Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy supplies the medicines and provides pharmaceutical care to patients in hospital.
Clinical pharmacists visit the hospital wards on a regular basis to make sure medicines are being used safely and in a way that provides the best possible care for each of our patients.
The pharmacy team works very closely with the medical and nursing staff to identify and resolve any problems with medication, as well as finding ways to adjust medicines for the best results.
This involves speaking with patients and their family, whānau and caregivers. While patients often speak with a pharmacist soon after admission to hospital, individual patients can also speak with pharmacists during their stay. This might happen because the medical team has asked, the pharmacist would like to provide you with more information, or because you have asked to speak to a pharmacist. Understanding your medicines is important and we want to help you do that.
Please note: all patients are encouraged to bring their medicines into hospital with them. This is so we can check that we know exactly what medicines you are currently taking.
Inpatient pharmacies are at both North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals.
North Shore Hospital Pharmacy - Outpatient Our outpatient pharmacy provides dispensing services, information about medicines, and a selection of over the counter medicines to purchase. We can dispense medicines for people who are being discharged home and need medication to take with them, and we are open to the public too.
Pharmacy services include:
- dispensing of prescriptions
- providing access to medicines that are difficult to locate or are unusual
- patient information and counselling
- blister packaging
- breast pump hire
- Fisher & Paykel Sleep Apnoea products
