Profile

Chris is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon based in Te Tai Tokerau. He is an honorary Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Auckland.

Chris was trained in general and colorectal surgery in the United Kingdom and completed a fellowship colorectal surgery at Oxford John Radcliffe hospital, before being appointed at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire as a consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery in 2009. He moved to New Zealand in 2015 with his family to take up post in Whangārei.

He has a broad clinical interest with specialist expertise in colorectal and trauma surgery. He has extensive experience and expertise in clinical leadership, and is currently Director of General Surgery and Director of innovation and transformation in Te Tai Tokerau locality. Chris is Clinical lead for the Northern Region Trauma Network, which develops effective trauma services for Northland and Auckland regions.

Chris has many research interests with a focus on developing and delivering collaborative surgical research across New Zealand, as well as enabling early years researchers. He leads the general surgical research programme in Te Tai Tokerau.

Outside of work, Chris has embraced the New Zealand lifestyle and enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and diving on the Northland coast and hiking the trails around New Zealand.
