Dr Vann was the first New Zealand surgeon to obtain the FRACS (Vascular Surgery) by examination; he trained under the tutelage of vascular surgeons who worked with Professors Michael DeBakey & Stanley Crawford. He is currently one of the most senior Vascular Surgeons in Auckland with 28 years experience.
Dr Peter Vann worked with Professor Sir Peter Bell (UK, pioneer vascular surgeon), Professor Ross Naylor (United Kingdom, Carotid Expert and World Leader) and Professor Matt Thompson (California ,USA,one of the current world-leading endovascular surgeons) .
Dr Vann was former Head of Vascular Surgery, South and East Auckland Vascular Service, Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand.

Director and Supervisor of Vascular Surgery Training, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons;
Convener of the FRACS Part 2 fellowship examination RACS;
Trustee, Medical Aid Abroad New Zealand;
Pioneer Vascular Surgeon to the Pacific Islands Samoa 2005;
Lead Medical Aid Co-ordinator Post Tsunami Sri Lanka 2004. He is a Board Member of Allevia Health and the Vascular Lead on the Allevia Hospital and Health Board, Auckland , NZ. Director of Auckland Vascular Surgery, Auckland Vascular and Varicose Vein Clinic, established 2001, at Allevia Ascot Hospital.
