Nutrition and Dietetics | Counties Manukau | Te Whatu Ora

The Kidz First Community Paediatric Dietetic service is a community based team of Dietitians providing a service to the children living in the Counties Manukau area. We are based at Kidz First Community Health in Manukau and work alongside the Kidz First Community Home Care Nurses and the Kidz First Child Development teams.

 

Who We See
Infants and children who are under the care of a Paediatrician or Consultant and require nutritional care related to the conditions below.

• Tube feeding
• Dietary fortification for poor faltering growth
• Anaphylatic or multiple food allergies that include major food groups or cow’s milk allergy
• Coeliac disease (not required to be under a Paediatrician)
• Multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies (with clinical evidence)
• Obesity in children and infants less than 5 years of age
• Obesity in children aged 5-16 years with obesity related comorbidities (up to 18 years for children with a disability linked to obesity)

 

Who We Do Not See
This service does not see children who:

• Are not under the care of a Paediatrician (excluding coeliac disease)
• Are growing appropriately but have

•  Reflux                                                                                                          
•  Constipation                                                                                              
•  Iron deficiency                                                                                           
•  Fussy or picky eaters                                                                                
•  Autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

• Children with Diabetes (covered by the Auckland Regional Diabetes Service)
• Children are aged 5-16 years, who have obesity without any co-existing medical conditions.

 

Where Do We See You?
You may be seen in your home or in a clinic setting at Manukau Superclinic, Botany Superclinic, Pukekohe Hospital or Special Schools. Where you are seen is determined by your child’s age, dietary issue and your residential address.
