NZTA Assessments

If you’ve been given a section 65 indefinite licence disqualification by the court, you will need to have this removed before you can re-sit your licence by proving you’ve dealt with your problem. This means completing an alcohol and other drug assessment in order to assess your fitness to drive, given you have lost your licence for offences involving drugs or alcohol. Harmony Pasifika can help you through this process. There is no charge if this is your first attempt, as it will be funded by Waka Kotahi/New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). The basic process is as follows: Firstly attend an assessment interview with Harmony Pasifika. Complete a blood test — this is a test for 'liver function' and full blood count. Attend an appointment with the Doctor who will review your blood test results. Complete any 'alcohol and drug' education recommended by your counsellor. Your counsellor will then send a report to the NZTA and you should receive a letter from them within one to two weeks. You will then need to re-sit your licence (call the NZTA on 0800 822 422 or visit www.nzta.govt.nz for more information on this process and to check the end date of your disqualification). Assessment Centers: Manurewa: St Lukes Anglican Church 3 Russell Road Manurewa Onehunga: Onehunga Community Centre 83 Church Street Onehunga New Lynn: Odyssey House 4/3029 Great North Road, New Lynn To book in for an assessment at any of these centres, call (09) 636 3449 or email us .

Repeat Impaired Driver Programme - One for the Road

One for the Road is a group programme for repeat drink or drugged drivers that is designed to promote and support changes to avoid further impaired driving. It sounds like the last thing a repeat impaired driver needs, but this is a group therapy programme for drink/drug drivers. Our programme helps participants by looking at the issues that may be contributing to their behaviour. Participants receive support from Harmony Pasifika’s facilitators and the other group members who share similar experiences and goals. Each group is contained in numbers to better support participants. The aim of this group is to help people remain abstinent from drink/drug driving. One for the Road has shown good outcomes with only 7.5 percent of graduates (1 in 13 people) being reconvicted for drink driving over a three-year period following the programme, and a 20.2 percent reduction in re-offending. Typically the group begins with an initial six hour workshop on day one followed by weekly sessions for approximately nine weeks. Upon completing the full programme, an individual will receive a certificate which they can present in court or to their referrer. We also support graduates through the In Harmony Progress Group.
