Clare Kirby - Midwife
The current pandemic has altered how we work a little. Midwives must, like everyone, limit face-to-face contacts to 10 to 15 minutes. We will ask you about your vaccination status and all the group midwives are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We remain as available as ever for urgent matters and births.
Every woman and baby has individualised care and we remain dedicated to ensuring your care is of an excellent standard regardless of COVID-19.
Masks are worn by us for all of our contact with you and we will request that you also wear a mask - except in labour. Please inform us if you are unwell, are waiting for a COVID-19 test result or have been to a place of interest. We have a duty of care to all women and babies.
If you would like more information about the practicalities or timings of this care then please get in touch.
I am a midwife with over 25 years' experience originally from the North East of England but have been in NZ since 2003. I have always lived in Franklin.
I support flexible pregnancy care which meets your needs. My main aim is to help you achieve a healthy outcome for both you and your baby. I will give you information and recommendations to assist you in making choices along the way.
I like to meet you for the first time around 9 weeks; visits after that are agreed between us. Each appointment will take about 30 minutes except the first which is around an hour to get introductions and paperwork out of the way. My clinics are held in Pukekohe primarily on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I look after mothers living in Franklin. I am happy to support you to birth at home, Pukekohe Primary Birthing Unit and also at Middlemore Hospital. Where you birth is a preference but also based on any risk factors you may have.
I support natural birth with minimal intervention wherever you birth but I will also continue to provide care should complications arise along the way.
My back up midwives are Cathi Wintle, Megan Hurst, Amy Newman and Sarah Holland; together we form a practice group called Franklin Midwives. We take alternate weekends off. To protect continuity, if you request care with a due date during a time I am on leave, I will not be able to care for you.
Student Midwives often are with me for placements. Please let me know if you prefer not to have a student involved in your care.
