I have been a midwife on Waiheke Island since 1993. I am moving towards retirement and not taking on a case-load any more. My role now is to support Iessa Clarke and Rachael McDonald (Motu Midwives).
I believe that pregnancy and birth are a natural process and predominantly work with families that wish to have a natural birth. Most babies I deliver are born at home. I will go to Birthcare in Auckland to support my colleagues with women who wish to deliver there, but do NOT deliver at hospital. If women require hospital care I arrange another midwife to take over care for that time.
I am open to using "alternative" health practices (such as homeopathy and acupuncture) and encourage women to use water to help with labour pain and for their support people to be involved as much as possible.
