I have worked as an independent midwife for 31 years out west. I am a Lead Maternity Carer that focuses on the individual needs of each family, enabling a mother to ensure she chooses the best care for herself and her family and for the birth of her baby.
I look after mothers across the West Auckland region. I love birthing either at home or hospital; I do water births and have access to Waitakere Hospital. I encourage women with support to go home early or recommend Helensville Birthing Unit for care after birth if that is what a mother wants. Postnatal care in her own home, individualised for her own family, is best for mothers and they can be relaxed and confident knowing that they are doing a great job with support as needed.
Having been a lactation consultant in my past I am passionate about breast feeding but there are many other services available for mothers to get help in the community.
My job is to enable families in my care to become comfortable and confident in their new roles as parents, so that they will feel confident in their abilities and parent in the way that they feel happiest.
