Referral Process

Admission may be as a transfer from the Gwen Wilson or Frank Hay units, or you may be admitted directly into Alexander House.

Referral is generally arranged through a health professional, often a general practitioner, counsellor/psychotherapist/psychologist or psychiatrist. Urgent referrals can be made by telephone, while less urgent referrals can be made via letter, email, or the website.

Access to our inpatient and day patient services differs, depending on how the prospective patient is to fund their treatment. Details of each main funding process can be found on our website. Funding types include:

  • Private Paying Patients
  • Ministry of Health
  • Accident Compensation Corporation
Description

Ashburn also provides Alexander House as a self-care accommodation environment for people who do not require the intensive, 24-hour nursing care of the inpatient units.

Patients in Alexander House are able to take responsibility for their own medications and safety, and can work together with other residents to manage any day-to-day issues that arise. Access to an on-call doctor is available after hours.
