Individuals can call us directly for more information or referrals can come from any source including friends, family or community organisations, with the individual's consent. Referrals can be made online on our website www.crs.org.nz.

Description

CRS provides counselling for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, either in their mother tongue, or with the support of an interpreter. While the focus is on mental health, the counselling tream can provide support around family violence, relationship issues and a wide range of other issues. The counsellors are from CALD backgrounds, and are New Zealand trained and accredited.

The CRS Social Work team provides generic individual and family support around resettlement issues including mental health assessment, intervention and support for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, with the support of an interpreter.

CRS is also plays an active role in Health Promotion, working with local communities to improve social inclusion and well being for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Mental health is a key topic of Health Promotion and CRS supports settled refugees to provide peer education of mental health back to the community, in their mother tongue. This work is funded by the Ministry of Health and aims at reducting stigma and discrimination around mental health issues.

CRS provides psychosocial and mental health services to the Muslim community following the mosque attacks of 2019.
