Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral - Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal Mental Health is a service for expectant mothers or those up to one year following birth who are experiencing difficulties with mental health and/or addictions issues. 

Staff

There is one full time position who works with women/family/whānau alongside other members of the primary health care team, women and child health and mental health staff including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, registered mental health nurses, midwives, health improvement practitioner/s, health coaches and GPs

Perinatal Mental Health Service

Perinatal Mental Health works in collaboration with women and their families/whānau and others to support the woman's return to optimum well being. The service provides: Advice and clinical support Consultation Perinatal mental health screening assessments, as required Support to the facilitation of pre-birth plan This service is not restricted to women with Post-Natal Depression. Perinatal Mental Health will see women who have anxiety, post natal psychosis or women with post traumatic symptoms associated with pregnancy or birth trauma and women in the antenatal period. All referrals are triaged in conjunction with Think Hauora - Primary Care services, Perinatal Mental Health and the Specialist Primary Mental Health service.

Referral Process

Referrals are accepted via self referral, GP or community agencies.

Referrals are treated on a case by case basis.  All referrals must have relevant clinical information and to assist with triaging the completion of an Edinburgh Post Natal Depression Scale Assessment would be of assistance.  (A copy of the Edinburgh Post Natal Depression Scale Assessment can be obtained from the Perinatal Mental Health team.)
