To access our support, please talk to your mental health professional. You can be referred via Nelson Marlborough DHB or West Coast DHB mental health services. In some circumstances you may be referred by your GP.
You are welcome to contact us first yourself to find out about eligibility and referral to this free service.
Te Ara Mahi works closely with people using mental health and addiction services to help them develop clear employment goals and make active, planned progress towards achieving those goals. This includes looking for paid employment and engaging in training that will lead to future employment.
Steps along the journey towards paid work may include job sampling or voluntary work, and anything vocational that helps job seekers gain or regain skills, improve their motivation and build self-confidence. Rather than 'placing' job seekers into roles, we actively support people to find suitable and sustainable employment.
We are a free service.
Te Ara Mahi staff come from a range of backgrounds and life experiences. We understand the needs of people with barriers to employment who are looking for meaningful employment or training.
Our staff have experience and qualifications in employment support, career guidance and social work. All Te Ara Mahi staff have a commitment to providing support that is professional, respectful, friendly and down to earth.
