Description

We currently provide two vocationally based services from our Village site. Te Whare Ti Rakau Horticulture and Te Whare Pueru Clothing and Textiles.
These programmes enable people to gain confidence through participating as volunteers in learning activities using either horticulture and clothing/textile skills as the medium. They can explore a range of skills and enter into associated training. There is a real team focus to these programmes and people develop immense commitment to the projects that they are involved in.

Horticulture - Te Whare Ti Rakau
The Horticulture team, with anywhere from 4 - 8 places, undertake small scale voluntary garden work and maintain a vegetable plot at the Village. They collect seed and raise seedlings for sale, and sell these natives through K Valley Natives.

Clothing and Textiles - Te Whare Pueru
Turning Point operates a clothing recycling project where participants volunteer from our client group and can be involved in gaining work skills and supporting the community.  Up to 10 volunteers process donated goods and provide opportunities for the community to purchase low cost clothing. People get to practice reliability, problem solving, and managing a small, dynamic project. This has grown in scope over the years and continues to develop.

Contract Work
We also provide small scale work opportunities for Turning Point members where they can undertake projects on and off site for real wages. This allows people to earn a little extra cash in a supportive setting as well as hone up on their work skills.
