Volunteering Otago seeks to celebrate, support, highlight and motivate volunteering in the Otago community organisations that rely on volunteers by connecting them with people who are willing to offer their skills and energy. The Supported Volunteering Programme (below) is tailored for individuals who have experienced issues with their mental health. Referral Process

The following guidelines should help you determine whether voluntary work is an appropriate suggestion to make to an individual, and to assist you in discussing the pros and cons with the person before referring them to Volunteering Otago’s Supported Volunteering Programme.

The Supported Volunteering Programme is a referral-based service that supports individuals who have experienced issues with their mental health to access volunteer opportunities.

Supported Volunteering offers a no-pressure environment and a non-judgemental experience allowing participants to make their own discoveries about what their interests are, what works for them, what does not and how they cope with new experiences. The Supported Volunteering Programme is funded by the Southern District Health Board.


Volunteering Otago is currently closed due to Covid-19, however our general public services are still operating via our website, by phone or email..
