Te Paepae Ārahi Trust is a kaupapa Māori Health organisation located in the Hutt Valley delivering mental health/addiction, emergency housing, primary mental health, adult and rangatahi programmes, and general support services focused on Whānau Ora outcomes.

This is our Kanohi ki te Kanohi (Person to Person) Mental Health and Addictions support service which encompasses the, Tinana (Physical) Hinengaro (Mental) Wairua (Spiritual) Whatumanawa (Emotional) Whānau (Family) Whenua (Environmental) aspects of the individual.This service is provided by qualified Social Workers, Peer Support Workers and DAPAANZ registered AOD counsellors. This is a mobile service and private home visits can be arranged.

Impaired Drivers' Awareness Course (IDAC)

The Impaired Drivers' Awareness Course alternates between the Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt Community Corrections sites from 9am – 5pm, on the last two Saturdays of every month. The course covers the social, health, and legal ramifications of impaired substance driving and road safety requirements. The objective of the course is to: Explore and discuss what drives an individual to drink and drive under the influence of legal and/or illegal substances; Explore and discuss the effects of substance impaired driving regarding an individual’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing; Explore and discuss the ripple effects of impaired substance driving on an individual’s family, friends and wider community; Explore and discuss anger and stress management strategies; Explore and discuss relapse prevention strategies; Develop individual safety plans to prevent substance impaired driving in order to keep participants and other people safe on the road; Assist participants to have indefinite suspensions lifted from their driver’s licence, by referring them to an approved land transport assessor; and provide ongoing individual and/or group therapy to address any substance related issues.

Description

The Impaired Drivers' Awareness Course alternates between the Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt Community Corrections sites from 9am – 5pm, on the last two Saturdays of every month.

Our men's peer support programme is based on the principles of Te Whare Tapa Wha, with a drug and alcohol focus. The aim is to develop and encourage Tāne Hauora and wellbeing by showing and practising whakawhanaungatanga through āwhina kai (Food) and kōrero (Talk). Every Thursday 11.00am - 2.00pm Pick up service available (to be arranged)

Description

This service assists people to access a range of support services related to community living such as education, vocational and social, as well as alcohol and drug rehabilitation services. Ngā Kete Aronui

Nga Kete Aronui – the baskets of “life’s” knowledge provides a continuum of wellbeing support treatment and therapy for whānau experiencing mental health or addiction distress, under the Whakawhiti Te Rā! collaborative and its principles, This program is open to Rangatahi and Pākeke, and is delivered over 6 different programs. Haehae Ha: is a group Design Program that uses a range of tactile mediums like Clothing, Fabrics, Design and Pepehā genealogy boards, Arts and crafts and Vinyl work. The program operates within a creative safe space where whanaungatanga happens and people openly share their experiences and stories. Attendees will learn skills to help manage their stress and develop their own artistic expression. Tangaroa Whakamautai: Tangaroa (Ocean) plays an integral role in supporting the well-being of the tāngata Māori. Ā Wairua (Spiritually), Ā Tinana (Physically), Ā Whānau (Socially) and Ā Hinengaro (Mentally). This kaupapa utilises the Moana (Sea) and Wai (Water) to improve the well-being of our whānau through Surfing, Diving and other water based activities. All safety protocols and measures are discussed and covered during intake. Tokatūmoana: In this rōpū, we utilise freediving practices to develop positive outcomes for whānau whaiora those seeking personal well-being. Throughout the program, you’ll learn about safe freediving techniques, equipment, species, catch limits, Kawa and Tikanga around the moana. Developing good freediving techniques is all about mindset and understanding of oneself. As Uepoto overcame Whiro, you may be faced with your own challenges here, where you may have to leave your comfort zone. Our connection to the taiao is also connected to our wellbeing. By strengthening our connection, we expand our tools of wellbeing. By taking care of our environment and providing for our whānau, we develop our purpose.
