Description

We provide counselling services for children, individual adults, couples and families, particularly those who are affected by family harm and violence, or are at risk of family harm and violence.

We also provide Circle of Security parenting programmes. The CoSP programmes help parents understand children's emotional needs, develop secure and healthy parent-child relationships, and facilitate long-term positive effects on the architecture of children's developing brain.

Chinese Mental Health Consultation Services Trust was established in 2005 and the trade name of Vagus Centre has been used since 2012.

As an essential service provider, we continue to provide services during the period of Covid-19 lockdown.

Staff

The team is staffed by a group of New Zealand qualified counsellors and social workers who are of Chinese ethnicity. Our counsellors speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English, and are experienced and qualified in working in the NZ health and education sectors.

Fees and Charges Description

$130 per an-hour counselliing session.

Free counselling service is available, which is subject to funding criteria.

Hours

10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Mon – Wed 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Thu – Fri 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

All counselling services are arranged by appointment.

Counselling for Chinese Individuals/Families

With funding from the Ministry of Social Development, we are able to provide a FREE counselling service, which is culturally and linguistically appropriate, to Chinese individuals/ families having difficulties in relationships and parenting issues. This service is to enhance harmonious relationships and positive interactions within families and reduce risk of family harm and violence occurrence or re-occurrence. The aims for this service are: to enhance family relationships to provide professional advice for the enrichment of family relationships to encourage the Chinese families to live harmoniously and settle happily in New Zealand to reduce the propensity to serious physical and psychological consequences arising from family harm and violence. The services we provide: Assessments for individuals and families: the needs; family functioning and safety issues. Counselling Services for children/ individual adults / couples / families (up to six sessions) Referral to other services when appropriate Others: Counselling for life crisis Parenting courses - Circle of Security parent education programmes Couple resilience programmes Culturally appropriate clinical services for Chinese. We have been working with the Ministry of Social Development initiated "It is Not Ok" anti-domestic violence Campaign since 2007. We are also one of the Ministry of Justice approved service providers under the Family Violence Act 2018, providing Safety Programmes for adults and children.
