Mr Barry Mahon

Mr Barry Mahon performs cardiac and thoracic surgery in adults including coronary artery bypass, valve repair or replacement, aortic surgery and surgery for lung cancer (including bronchoscopy, mediastinoscopy and lung resection). He has special interests in chest wall surgery, patient safety, audit and quality assurance.

Barry is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Cardiothoracic Surgery for the University of Otago and was the Clinical Leader of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Capital and Coast DHB from 2007 to 2012.

Specialist Training:

After undergraduate and postgraduate training in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Cape Town, Mr Mahon gained a further four years of postgraduate training and experience in Sydney, Perth and Auckland. He was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Perth in 1997 and has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Wellington since January 2000.
