Following specialist training in New Zealand, Charles completed three years of additional fellowship training in Craniofacial and Cosmetic Surgery in Sweden, France, UK, Belgium, Canada, US, Australia and Malaysia.

His surgery at Boulcott consists primarily of surgery of the breasts (breast augmentation, reduction, breast lifts, and correction of asymmetries), facial cosmetic surgery (neck and facelifts, eyelid lifts, browlifts), abdominoplasties, head and neck cancer, and reconstruction after facial trauma.

Charles leads the craniofacial teams for central and southern New Zealand. His work is also heavily focused on skull base surgery, complex deformities of the face and reconstruction of ear deformities. He has recently completed a PhD studying the biomechanics of the craniofacial region. He regularly teaches craniofacial surgery in developing countries.
