Greg worked as a junior doctor in Christchurch as well as several other centres around New Zealand for General Surgery training and was awarded his FRACS in 2020. This was followed by a Master’s degree in the management of diverticulitis and the role of the gut microbiome which was awarded with distinction.
He then completed subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery through the ANZTBCRS programme, with Fellowships in Melbourne at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Women’s, then The Alfred and is a member of CSSANZ.
He subsequently undertook an additional year of Fellowship training in complex cancer surgery and robotic surgery at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and is credentialed on the Da Vinci platform. He was awarded the ACPGBI travelling Fellowship which enabled him to visit the leading UK centres for complex pelvic cancer surgery during this time.
He returned to Christchurch in 2024 as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Christchurch Hospital, where he is part of the Pelvic Exenteration team. He has an ongoing involvement in teaching and research and is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago.
