Dr Stephanie Ulmer - The Women's Clinic

Private Service

Description

The Women's Clinic is a unique surgical practice in Auckland providing consultation and operations specifically for women.

Our team of health professionals is dedicated to offering a comprehensive consultation service and surgery to women who need it. Sometimes surgery is required and sometimes not but at The Women's Clinic we apply a great deal of time and effort to identifying each individual's specific needs through a personal consultation process.

The Surgeon
Stephanie Ulmer is a NZ trained surgeon with specialised expertise and training in Weight Loss (Obesity) Surgery and Breast Surgery. Steph has also spent time in Australia and the UK gaining knowledge and training in state-of-the-art surgical techniques. The other types of surgery that Stephanie does include hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, haemorrhoid surgery, skin lesion or lipoma excision amongst other things.

What is General Surgery?
The role of the general surgeon varies, but in broad terms general surgery can be said to deal with a wide range of conditions within the abdomen, breast, neck, skin and, in some cases, vascular (blood vessel) system.

While the name would suggest that the focus of general surgery is to perform operations, often this is not the case. Many patients are referred to surgeons with conditions that do not need surgical procedures, but merely require counselling or medical treatment.

Consultants

Referral Expectations

Your Family Doctor is usually the first port-of-call and at The Womens Clinic we encourage that. However, there is no reason you can’t ring The Womens Clinic to discuss your issues and get some advice on the best ‘next step’. We are happy to talk with you, the patient, and will give free advice where and when we can.

Just drop us a line by email or give us a call. Alternatively ask your GP to write a referral to The Womens Clinic and we will arrange an appointment at a time that suits you. Remember, don’t be afraid to ask. There is no problem too big or too small.

When you come to your appointment, your surgeon will ask questions about your illness and examine you to try to determine or confirm the diagnosis. This process may also require a number of tests (e.g. blood tests, x-rays, scans etc). Sometimes this can all be done during one visit, but for some conditions this will take several follow-up appointments. Occasionally some tests are arranged even before your appointment to try to speed up the process.

Once a diagnosis has been made, your surgeon will discuss treatment with you. In some instances this will mean surgery, while other cases can be managed with medication and advice. If surgery is advised, the steps involved in the surgical process and the likely outcome are usually discussed with you at this time.
