Robert Aspoas works at Auckland Brain & Spine Surgery which specialise in Cranial Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery.
 
 
Robert completed his undergraduate training at the University of Witwatersrand. He then undertook specialist training at the University of Cape Town, working at Groote Schuur and the Red Cross Children's Hospitals. Further higher surgical training in neurosurgery was done at Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He then worked as a consultant in the east end of London as well as in the Essex Spinal Centre and ran the Nuffield Hospital Spinal Assessment Clinic.

A neurosurgeon is a doctor who has specialised in the surgical and medical management of neurological diseases and conditions.
Neurosurgeons and neurologists often work together, depending on the patient's individual clinical condition.
 
Neurosurgery is the surgical specialty that deals with diseases or disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. This specialty includes the management of tumours (brain, spine and peripheral nerve), vascular conditions, degenerative spinal conditions, pain management and peripheral nerve entrapment neuropathies.

  2. Any X-Rays, CT or MRI films and reports.
  3. All medicines you are taking including herbal and natural remedies.
  4. Your pharmaceutical entitlement card.
  5. Your ACC number, if you have one.
  6. Completed Patient Questionnaire, which can be downloaded from this page, under "Document Downloads".

Charges

  • New Consultation: $420.00 and upwards
  • Telehealth Initial Consultation: $420.00 and upwards
  • Complex Consultation: $580.00
  • Follow-up Consultation: $215.00 and upwards
  • Telehealth Follow-up Consultation: $215.00 and upwards
  • Virtual Appointment: $100.00 
  • Inpatient care cost will be quoted with respect to the specific procedure.

The majority of Medical Insurance Companies cover Neurosurgical Procedures, and you will need to ask your Insurance Company what percentage of the fee they cover.

Southern Cross Health Society do not routinely cover Cranial Surgery specifically for Aneurysms or Arterio-venous Malformations. This can be challenged with Southern Cross.
