My practice is structured to treat women in a relaxed and friendly environment.

My practice philosophy is to listen in a sympathetic, sensitive and understanding way. Decisions on management are always shared, and a full explanation and choices are always given.
I encourage patients to bring a support person.

I am a generalist gynaecologist and deal with all aspects of gynaecology.

I have a special interest in heavy menstrual bleeding, especially fibroids. We will explore all aspects of management including medical and surgical options.

I am also particularly interested in colposcopy and abnormal smears. I endeavour to see patients quickly and in most cases can have a diagnosis made and treatment completed within one month.

What is Gynaecology?
Gynaecology is the area of medicine that deals with health issues and conditions that are specific to women. This generally includes the female reproductive organs and genitalia. The reproductive organs consist of the ovaries that release an egg every month, the fallopian tubes that lead from the ovaries, the uterus (womb), which is where a baby will grow if the egg is fertilised during sexual intercourse, the cervix (opening of the uterus) and the vagina.

Many gynaecological investigations are performed by laparoscopy. This is a procedure to view the inside of the abdomen (stomach) through a specially lit type of mini telescope (laparoscope) that is inserted through a small cut in the abdomen. The laparoscope also contains a small camera that sends pictures to a screen that the doctor can watch.

Sometimes surgical procedures (keyhole surgery) can be performed at the same time. A laparoscopy is performed under a general anaesthetic (you are asleep).

Early Pregnancy
I do early pregnancy counselling and care from conception to 15 weeks, including amniocentesis when indicated. Together we develop a plan to monitor early pregnancy progress that reassures couples that all is going well. After 15 weeks I will arrange for you to be transferred to the LMC of choice.

I also have a special interest in miscarriages, recurrent miscarriages and fetal abnormalities. Early pregnancy loss is always devastating. I will see you quickly and will provide the appropriate care and treatment for your individual needs.

If the pregnancy fails I am able to do an evacuation (D&C) with minimal waiting time. You do not need to be a current patient. Ring Wendy at Reception to discuss (09) 4799016.

Referral Expectations

Please phone Wendy on the above numbers and I will endeavour to see you within a few days.

If you have a referral letter from your GP, please bring it to the appointment. GP referral is not essential.
