Specifically in the hand, tendons can become inflamed and sometimes trapped within a tight compartment.  This can cause pain and mechanical symptoms.  Common conditions include trigger fingers/thumb and De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Initial management for these conditions can involve steroid injections and input from a hand therapist.

If surgery is eventually required, these procedures will involve some sort of splintage after the surgery followed by a period of rehabilitation, normally supervised by a hand therapist.
