Dr Duthie Mills, ORTHOPAEDIC CONSULTANT, specialises in orthopaedic medico-legal assessment.  He is skilled at performing independent medico-legal examinations and evaluations in respect of impairment and disability assessments with his background in trauma and injury management.

Dr Mills has extensive experience in providing orthopaedic medico-legal reports Australia-wide (working with Medico Legal Consultants of Australia).

Dr Mills has previously held the position of part-time Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland and was previously Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Middlemore.

He is currently Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital and has past appointments at Mercy Hospital, Ascot Hospital and Auckland Adventist Hospital in Auckland.

He has previously served as Chairman of the Auckland Orthopaedic Society (1981-82). Dr Mills belongs to the following professional associations:

  • Fellow Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Gordon Gordon-Taylor Prize 1964].
  • Member Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Medico-Legal Section.
  • Senior Fellow New Zealand Orthopaedic Association.
  • Member Auckland Orthopaedic Society.
  • Affiliate Member American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Continuing Professional Development
Dr Mills participates in Continuing Professional Development Conferences and Workshops offered by the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, the Australian Orthopaedic Association and also the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.


What is Orthopaedics?
This is an area that deals with conditions of the musculo-skeletal system (disorders of bones and joints of the limbs and spine). The specialty covers a range of different types of conditions starting with congenital (conditions which children are born with) through to degenerative (conditions relating to the wearing out of joints). The field of orthopaedics covers trauma where bones are broken or injuries are sustained to limbs.
Other conditions that sit under the spectrum of orthopaedics are metabolic conditions, neurological and inflammatory conditions.

  1. Any letters or reports from your doctor or hospital
  2. Any X-Rays, CT or MRI films and reports
  3. All medicines you are currently taking including herbal and natural remedies
  4. Your pharmaceutical entitlement card
  5. Your ACC number if appropriate.
