Apollo Plastic Surgery is based at Waikato Specialist Centre, a very well-equipped modern clinic and day-case operating theatre suite.
Our consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Mr Simon Nicholson, has full vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and is a member of the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS) and the New Zealand Society for Surgery of the Hand (NZSSH). He is a Southern Cross affiliated provider. Mr Nicholson also works for the plastic surgery department at Waikato Hospital, where he recently completed a 2-year term as head of department. Clinics are on Monday mornings and occasional Friday mornings.

Mr Nicholson is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon with full vocational registration in New Zealand. He qualified in 2007 and completed higher surgical training in Yorkshire, UK in 2017, which included two competitively awarded Training Interface Group (TIG) fellowships in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery (Newcastle upon Tyne), and hand surgery (Pulvertaft Hand Centre, Derby). Mr Nicholson completed the BSSH hand surgery diploma during his fellowship in Derby. He moved to New Zealand in 2017 to undertake additional higher surgical training fellowships in plastic & hand surgery and was appointed as a consultant in Hamilton, NZ in September 2019. Mr Nicholson was appointed as clinical lead for hand surgery in Waikato Hospital in 2021, and Clinical Director of the Plastic Surgery department in July 2022. His clinical interests include hand surgery and skin cancer, plus breast surgery and surgical aesthetic treatments.

Referral Expectations
You will have an initial consultation with Mr Nicholson who will assess your general health and discuss the best type of surgical procedure for you. You will be given instructions on medications to avoid before surgery.
"See and treat" patients: in some cases skin lesions may be treated at the initial consultation.
