Specialist

Qualifications

MB ChB 2005 Auckland; FRANZCO 2015

Profile

Some moments in life are unforgettable.

Two stand out for me: examining the back of a patient’s eye as a medical student, and observing retinal surgery for the first time as an ophthalmology resident. From those moments, I was utterly, completely sold on ophthalmology as a career, and retinal surgery as a subspecialty.

My training has moved me around New Zealand, Australia, and South-East Asia, and I have gained extensive experience in cataract and retinal surgery. I gained fellowship to The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2015, and that year completed advanced training in medical and surgical retina in Adelaide, South Australia, before a second fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Sydney Eye Hospital in 2016. I then completed a PhD in retinal infections at Flinders University before returning to New Zealand, where I am very happy to call Christchurch my home.

I love the challenge of microsurgery, the joy of working in a theatre team, and I remain constantly humbled by the genius of how we see.
