Profile

Dr Jo-Anne Pon undertook her ophthalmology training in Dunedin, Hamilton, Auckland and Christchurch. After completing her registrar training, she spent a year as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne gaining further experience in her subspecialty interests of Oculoplastics, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She went on to work at the Eye Care Centre, Vancouver General Hospital, where she did fellowships in Oculoplastics with Dr Peter Dolman, and in Neuro-ophthalmology with Drs Duncan Anderson and Jason Barton. With Dr Peter Dolman, she learnt a unique technique of performing endonasal (via the nose) dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) to treat tearing problems caused by blocked tear ducts.

In 2010, Jo-Anne returned to Christchurch to work at Southern Eye Specialists and Christchurch Hospital, where she is involved in registrar training and education.

Her main interest is in the management of eyelid malignancies and reconstruction, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology.
