Profile

John Mortimer lives and works in Wellington. He graduated from the University of Otago and trained throughout New Zealand in orthopaedic surgery.  He completed his hand surgery fellowship in Auckland. He also completed two paediatric orthopaedic Fellowships at Starship Children’s Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital. He is a fully qualified orthopaedic surgeon and a Fellow of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Society.

John works in both the private and public sectors, consulting and operating at Southern Cross Hospital, Wellington Regional Hospital/Kenepuru Hospital, and Wairarapa Regional Hospital.

He specializes in the surgical treatment of hand and wrist conditions, including congenital, traumatic, degenerative disorders and nerve entrapment. His expertise spans a variety of procedures including open surgery, arthroscopy, and joint replacement.

John also consults on the majority of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, excluding spinal conditions. Additionally, he has a special interest in managing upper and lower limb deformities, utilizing advanced techniques including the Illizarov method.
