Profile

Dr Kat Raman is a Cardiologist, specialised in general cardiology, cardiac imaging, cardiomyopathy, heart failure and general cardiology.

Born and raised in Malaysia, Kat completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. After working at various district hospitals, he undertook his basic physician training followed by advanced training in Cardiology at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand.

Kat completed a further fellowship in cardiac imaging (cardiac magnetic resonance and echocardiography) at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, and attained his cardiac imaging PhD at Flinders University, South Australia. His research focused on novel cardiac imaging techniques in early detection of right ventricular dysfunction in patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Upon returning to New Zealand, Kat has been integral to the cardiac imaging services at Northland, having set up the Northland cardiac magnetic resonance service and improved the Northland area echocardiography service.

Coming from Malaysia and having lived as well as practiced medicine in both New Zealand and Australia, Kat is extremely culturally aware and sensitive to patient’s needs. He is a firm believer of early detection of cardiac diseases. By addressing cardiac risk factors, preventable steps could be taken to avoid subsequent development of advanced cardiac diseases.
