Dr Olivia Payne attended the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where she completed her medical qualification (MBChB) in 2005. She later went on to complete a postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology through the University of Auckland in 2007.

Her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was undertaken in New Zealand and Australia (Sydney). Olivia worked in High Risk Obstetrics in both Auckland and Sydney where she developed an interest in managing pregnancies complicated by complex medical and fetal conditions.

Olivia is passionate about the prevention of stillbirth, about managing pregnancies complicated by fetal growth restriction and/or where women have experienced previous perinatal loss or adverse outcome. Olivia supports an evidence-based approach to the prevention of preterm birth.

​Olivia has trained as a PROMPT instructor and has taught Emergency Obstetric Management in both New Zealand and Fiji (through the Pacific Society of Reproductive Healthcare).

​Olivia was the Clinical Fellow and, more recently, a Senior Lecturer for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Auckland.

​Olivia was former Co-Lead of the Complex Care in Obstetrics and the Diabetes in Pregnancy Team at Taranaki Base Hospital. She has also achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG).

A mother herself, Olivia recognises that pregnancy and the postnatal period can be vulnerable times for a woman’s mental health. Olivia enjoys providing continuity of care for women with depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns, as well as previous birth trauma.
