Ross graduated from Otago University and completed his radiology training in Auckland and Palmerston North. He undertook fellowships in musculoskeletal and interventional radiology in Melbourne where he stayed on as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist. He returned to Palmerston North in 2015, initially working at Palmerston North Hospital as well as in private practice.
