Mr Bruce Tang

Specialist

Qualifications

MBBS 2008 Hong Kong; FHKOS 2015 Hong Kong

Profile

Bruce was born and raised in Hong Kong, where he completed his medical degree at the University of Hong Kong in 2008.

Following graduation, he commenced his Orthopaedic training at Tuen Mun Hospital, a major regional hospital serving a population of over one million. This demanding environment provided him with extensive exposure and invaluable experience in managing a complex range of trauma and elective Orthopaedic cases. He attained his Orthopaedic specialist qualification in 2015.

Bruce subsequently focused his subspecialty interests on Lower Limb Surgery, concentrating on Hip and Knee replacement (primary and revision), Knee sports/arthroscopic procedures, and Foot/Ankle surgery. To advance his expertise, he undertook specialised overseas training in Australia and Japan. This international experience was critical in developing his advanced techniques, particularly his strong interest in Partial Knee Replacement.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, he successfully introduced these new techniques to the hospital's Joint Replacement Centre. He was instrumental in developing and implementing new surgical protocols, including single-stage both knee replacement and the integration of robotic-assisted joint surgery.

Beyond his clinical work, Bruce made significant contributions to the Orthopaedic community through research, teaching, and serving on the committees of various professional societies.

In early 2023, Bruce and his family relocated to New Zealand. He initially served as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Wairarapa and Wellington regions before ultimately settling in Palmerston North to join the established Orthopaedic group here.
