Qualifications

MB ChB 2003 Cape Town; FRACS (GS) 2016

Profile

I am a New Zealand-trained general surgeon, fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a consultant surgeon in the Department of General Surgery at Tauranga Hospital. I am also the Trauma Medical Director for the Bay of Plenty, and have a private practice in Tauranga.

I gained experience in emergency and trauma surgery in South Africa before moving to New Zealand in 2007.

My surgical training in New Zealand covered all common general surgical problems, including thyroid and parathyroid pathology, hernias and diseases of the gallbladder, intestines, breast and skin cancers, including melanoma. I have experience in plastic and paediatric surgery, as well as neurosurgery and trauma from working in South Africa.

I regularly attend international surgical meetings and keep abreast of developments in many areas of general surgery. My commitment to teaching medical students and junior doctors has been recognised and awarded by the General Surgeons of Australia through the Excellence in Surgical Teaching award in 2019. I continue this practice here in Tauranga.
