Paul is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Auckland City Hospital specialising in Hip and Knee orthopaedic surgery and general sports related problems. He has an appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Auckland and Paul has an international reputation for clinical, research and development work in this field leading a team of clinicians and scientists who undertake biomechanical and clinical studies related to the knee, hip and shoulder. This team is the most productive in the field in NZ and one of the most influential in the world.

Following training as an Orthopaedic surgeon in Oxford UK, he was awarded his doctorate in orthopaedic implant design from St. Johns College, Oxford and was later the NIHR Lecturer at the University of Oxford.

Paul holds the Army rank of Major in the Parachute Regiment and deployed to Helmand province as a combat trauma surgeon during the Afghanistan conflict.

A sports enthusiast outside of work, he has represented New Zealand at triathlon at the Age Group World Championships.


Knee, Hip and Sports Orthopaedic Surgery

  • Hip: Sports hip injuries, Femoro-Acetabular Impingement (FAI) surgery, hip arthroscopy, total hip joint replacement (THR), revision hip joint replacement.
