Wikus is a people person and likes to get to know his patients well.  For him, a human touch is important - he is a good communicator and understands the emotional side of being sick or undergoing a procedure.  Robotically trained and accredited, he has a special interest in the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer, but enjoys all endourology procedures, including benign prostatic hyperplasia and renal stone disease. 

He completed his pre- and post-graduate training in Bloemfontein, South Africa, but continued with advanced urological/robotic surgery training in Belgium, France, Johannesburg, and right here in Tauranga with Professor Peter Gilling.  Having spent well over a decade of long days as a consultant urologist and robotic surgeon assisting people with their urological problems, he is well equipped to find solutions for his patients.

Wikus is a vocationally registered urologist at both the Medical Council of New Zealand the Health Professionals Council of South Africa, as well as a council member of the South African Colleges of Medicine (Urological College), Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, European Association of Urology, and Societe Internationale d'Urologie. He is also an honorary lecturer at Auckland University.

Another branch of academia Wikus enjoys is imagining the hospitals of the future, and opportunities for environmental and medical improvements.  He has completed a Diploma in Business Management in sustainability in international healthcare, plus an MBA underway.  Leadership, and helping the doctors of the future is also included in this interest, through his teaching of registrars at the hospital.
