Profile

Ros trained as a doctor in the U.K., at University College London and graduated in 1994 with both her medical degree and a degree in psychology.

She spent her first year working as a doctor in London and then, having worked in New Zealand during her training on elective, decided to move to New Zealand to work for one year.

She and her husband fell in love with the country and she applied and was accepted onto the surgical training programme. She spent the next 10 years being moved around New Zealand on the training programme spending a year in Nelson along the way.

After obtaining her fellowship, she spent 2 years, one in Auckland and one in the UK undergoing post fellowship subspecialty training in Breast, Reconstructive and Endocrine Surgery. During this time she worked closely with the Plastic Surgeons, enabling her to hone her skills at breast preservation and remodelling.

Ros is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member Breast Surganz group as well as the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons.

She is the supervisor of training for the top of the South for General Surgery. She instructs or directs on all the major skills training programmes for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), as well as being on two Executive Committees for  RACS.

Ros practices in both public and private in Nelson. She is one of 6 general surgeons in public on the on call roster for any acute surgical problems that arise.

She performs common general surgical procedures and colonoscopy and gastroscopy on a weekly basis as well as focusing on her specialist interests of breast and endocrine.
