Referral Expectations

On presentation to the clinic, the patients’ care involves the following:

  • Initial complete vascular examination to identify the underlying cause of the wound
  • Review of the major medical co-morbidities
  • Wound care assessment
  • Non-invasive lower limb arterial assessment.

Each patient will be provided with an arterial and venous assessment, ongoing vascular interventional plan, wound care recommendations, and a community wound-care plan.

Comprehensive management plan
Depending on the findings of the initial assessment the patient may proceed to have an arterial or venous ultrasound in the same clinic visit, with a vascular surgical review following the scan.

A comprehensive management plan is then created for each patient, encompassing management of any underlying arterial and venous disease, optimisation of major medical risk factors, and wound care and/or compression therapy.

Advice is given for patients who require podiatric, orthotic, and nutrition assessment, and additional consultation may also be provided in the same visit.
