Interests

Professor Michael Findlay graduated from Otago University School of Medicine in 1983 before specialising in the field of Medical Oncology, being granted entry to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1990.

He trained in New Zealand, Australia and London, where he developed a clinical research interest in the field of gastro-intestinal malignancy. He completed a Doctor of Medicine degree in this field before returning to Sydney and then New Zealand where in 2002 he was appointed Professor of Oncology at the University of Auckland.

He has a research interest in the fields of gastric, oesophageal, liver, pancreas, neuroendocrine, GIST and colorectal (bowel) cancers. In addition to being a member of the Board and Scientific Advisory Committee of the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group he is Director of Cancer Trials New Zealand – a national cancer clinical research organisation. Michael is a practising Medical Oncologist both at Auckland City Hospital’s Regional Cancer Service and Canopy Cancer Care.
