We aim to help you self-manage your diabetes by working with you and your family/whanau to provide you with practical and sound information about eating for diabetes. The diabetes dietitians work closely with the Counties Manukau DHB Diabetes Team (Whitiora Diabetes Services).
Group sessions are held at Manukau Conference Centre for:
Diabetes basic education
- This involves attending three sessions which are held on Wednesday evenings, 6-8pm.
- A dietitian and a diabetes nurse specialist will be there to help you understand more about diabetes management. Topics include diabetes medications, healthy eating for people with diabetes, hypoglycaemia management and sick day advice.
Diabetes advanced education (for people who are on insulin)
- This involves attending three sessions which are held on Thursday evenings, 6-8pm.
- A dietitian and a diabetes nurse specialist will be there to help you put carbohydrate counting and insulin manipulation into practice which will enable you to self-manage your diabetes better.
Individual appointments with the dietitian:
Diabetes dietitian clinics are also held at Mangere Health Centre (6 Waddon Place, Mangere) and Otara Clinic (2/100 Alexander Crescent, Otara). Click here to find maps for these locations.
