Description
The Endocrine, Diabetes & Research Centre is headed by Principal Investigators Professor Jeremy Krebs, Dr Rosemary Hall and Dr Richard Carroll and Diabetes Research Projects Manager, Cecilia Ross.
There is a dedicated team of research staff:
- Dr Amber Parry-Strong - Research Fellow
- Emily Walsh - Diabetes Nurse Trial Coordinator
- Margaret Ward - Diabetes Nurse Trial Coordinator
- Helena Faherty - Research Administration Assistant
We run a variety of research studies with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, aimed to help better understand and treat diabetes.
At the Endocrine, Diabetes & Research Centre we aim to contribute to national and international research that is being done to gain a better understanding of diabetes and diabetes therapies.
We are currently looking for volunteers for a number of different research studies. Eligibility criteria vary between the studies. You may or may not be eligible depending on:
- your age
- medications
- other more specific reasons which we discuss with you.

Travel Directions
Diabetes Research is located at the Endocrine, Diabetes & Research Centre, Level 5, Grace Neill Block, Wellington Regional Hospital.
To get to the Endocrine, Diabetes & Research Centre, enter off Riddiford Street and park under the new hospital:
- take the orange lift to Level 3
- turn right when you get out of the lift. At the end of the corridor you can see the Grace Neill Block (GNB) link bridge diagonally across the foyer on your left
- walk across the bridge and take the yellow lift to Level 5.
Alternatively, there is a drop-off point and limited parking outside the Grace Neill Block (GNB) accessed via Hospital Road.
If you arrive by bus at the new hospital entrance on Riddiford Street, walk into the atrium and the orange lift is visible on your right.

Public Transport
Buses run regularly to and from Wellington Hospital (for timetable information ring Metlink on 0800 801 700).
During weekdays, over 20 buses per hour run from the city to the hospital on routes 1, 10, 11, 12, 18, 22, 23, 43 and 44.
Shuttle Service for Patients Living in Kapiti/Porirua
A free patient shuttle service also runs between the Kenepuru and Wellington hospital sites. It operates on the hour from 7:00am to 6:00pm weekdays.
You must book a seat in advance for this service by telephoning (04) 385 5999 extn: 7088.

Diabetes Research is located together with the Endocrine and Diabetes Clinics at Level 5 of the Grace Neill Building. Parking for the Wellington Regional Hospital is in the main underground car park. The entry to the car park is clearly sign-posted near the main entrance to the hospital, on Riddiford Street. Usual parking fees will apply.

There may be some limited parking available outside the Grace Neill Building; access to this is via Hospital Road. Usual pay and display parking fees will apply.
On-site Shuttle:
There is an on-site shuttle service available to assist patients / whanau who may have access or walking difficulties getting through the hospital to our location. If you require this service, please wait at the on-site shuttle stop, which is near the main entrance to the hospital site.
This service runs every 20 minutes between 8:00am to 4.30pm on weekdays. It stops at all buildings.
