Fees and Charges Description

For people living in the Auckland District Health Board (DHB), Waitemata DHB and Counties Manukau DHB areas, first trimester medical and surgical abortion services at Epsom Day Unit and Auckland Medical Aid Centre are publicly funded.

For people who are not eligible for publicly funded health services, services will incur costs:

At your appointment:

·         We’ll do a basic ultrasound with no sound, you will be asked if you want to see the screen or not
·         Talk with you about your health, support needs, and contraception
·         Give you oral pain relief, sedation, and local anaesthetic
·         Perform the procedure using gentle suction — it takes just a few minutes

·         You’ll rest in your own private recovery room

🕐 How long will I be at the clinic?

  • Plan to stay for 4 to 6 hours
  • Most of this time is for preparation, support, and recovery

💡 Good to know

  • You cannot drive home because of the sedation — please bring a support person or arrange a ride
  • Most people feel well the next day, but we can provide a medical certificate if needed
  • You can have an IUD or contraceptive implant placed during the procedure if you choose
  • The procedure is free for people eligible for public healthcare in the Auckland, Waitematā, or Counties Manukau regions

Epsom Day Unit (Greenlane Clinical Centre)

Your choice We understand that unplanned pregnancies happen and that every woman has the right to choose for herself how to deal with the situation. Many factors may influence your decision to continue or terminate a pregnancy. Your values, beliefs, previous life experiences, society's attitudes, spirituality and cultural perspectives will all impact on your choice to: continue the pregnancy and become a parent; or continue the pregnancy and place the baby up for adoption or fostering; or end the pregnancy with a termination, if you are legally able to do so. Supporting you We know it can be hard to make a decision about what to do and we are here to provide support. Counselling is available should you wish to explore feelings and issues related to an unplanned pregnancy and the options available. Post-termination counselling is also available. If you think counselling would be helpful, phone (09) 631 0740 and choose option 3. Our counselling services are free if you are eligible for publicly funded healthcare.
