Formerly Southern DHB Primary Birthing Unit - Ōamaru
Ōamaru Maternity Centre specialises in birth support services. The unit is staffed by six midwives and nurses who cover postnatal care. There are up to two birthing rooms, including a birthing pool, and up to four postnatal rooms. An on-call service operates at night if the centre is not occupied. The centre has two antenatal clinic rooms and an obstetrician holds an obstetric clinic once a month in the hospital’s outpatient department. They are a breastfeeding friendly accredited (BFHI) unit, offer lactation support services and run breastfeeding class for women every 6-8 weeks.
