Formerly Lakes DHB Acute Response Team (ART) 

24/7 mobile Acute Response Team (ART) responds to mental health and addiction crisis in the Lakes DHB region. We have two ART teams – one based at Rotorua Hospital, supporting the Rotorua community, and one based at Taupō Hospital supporting the Southern Lakes community (Taupō, Tūrangi and Mangakino).

Staff

The Role of the Duly Authorised Officer under the Mental Health Act 1992

All ART members are Duly Authorised Officers and duties include:

  • information and advice to the public concerning the operation of the MHA and the services available for people with mental health issues
  • advice in dealing with a person who may be mentally unwell or at risk
  • assistance with the assessment of a proposed patient as well as the care and treatment of patients (subject to MHA) on leave
  • assistance in transporting or returning patients under the MHA to their place of assessment or treatment.

Fees and Charges Description

New Zealand citizens or those who have obtained permanent residence are entitled to publicly funded health care.

Non-residents may be required to pay for their health care.

Acute Response Team/Home Based Treatment

What do we do? We provide and offer: assessment of mental health state and facilitation of appropriate interventions offer advice to concerned members of the public, family/whānau or significant others, if they believe that a person's mental wellbeing is compromised information on mental illness, Mental Health Act and services available consultation and liaison with GPs, Police, non-governmental organisations, residential services, hospitals, as and when required Where can we see you? We cover the Lakes DHB area which includes Rotorua, Mamaku, Kaingaroa Forest, Taupō, Tūrangi, Mangakino and to Tongariro National Park. From 8.30am - 11pm there is a dedicated crisis service based in Taupō. We can see you at a variety of settings, negotiating the most appropriate place for all parties involved. What happens when we see you? We will: provide assessment of your mental health and consider issues that are contributing to the mental health crisis provide short term support and treatment where needed refer you on to other services/agencies who may also be able to assist you. The team promotes positive outcomes for service user/tangata whaiora, family/whānau, significant others and the community and refer to family support services as appropriate when determining the appropriate treatment or intervention, the team will ensure that the service user/tangata whaiora and their family/whānau, significant others and/or support networks are actively involved in the process
