There are no fees for services to public patients if you are lawfully in New Zealand and meet one of the eligibility criteria set by the Ministry of Health. If you do not meet the criteria, you will be required to pay for the full cost of any medical treatment you recieve during your stay.

Maternal Mental Health Service

The Southland Maternal Mental Health Team provides a free service to the Southland district. This service is available to all women who have a known or suspected mental health disorder, during pregnancy and for one year following birth. The service provides quality care for women who may be experiencing difficulties relating to mental health (baby and family/whānau), throughout her antenatal, birth, and postnatal experience, which promotes respect, dignity and acceptance within the community and promotes optimum mental health for mother.

Access to the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service is restricted to:

  • Individuals aged 18 - 30 years experiencing their first episode of psychosis
  • Individuals under 18 years experiencing their first episode of psychosis and it has been agreed with Youth Specialty Service that EIPS is the most appropriate service for them
  • Woman of any age experiencing psychosis associated with pregnancy or birth, and first episode of psychosis.
