Description
Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) is a service for service users aged 65 and over and is provided in both an inpatient and community setting. The service is provided on the North Shore, and in Rodney District and West Auckland.
MHSOA provides assessment, treatment and support to:
- People with serious mental disorder, aged 65 or older, newly presenting to local mental health services or who have not been under the care of other local mental health services for two years
- People of any age, with primary dementia and serious behavioural and/ or psychological symptoms and signs
- People with pre-existing serious mental health disorders who would be better cared for by MHSOA, either because of significant medical co-morbidities or frailty, or (less commonly) due to psychological or social issues typical of those seen by MHSOA.
This team is part of the division of Specialty Medicine & Health of Older People. The MHSOA team maintains strong professional links to the Mental Health Services Group.
