The Community Breastfeeding Team (CBT)

The CBT comprises of the Community Lactation Consultant and the Pacific BF Service.

Together they staff the Breastfeeding Centre (BFC) for women to drop in and receive breastfeeding support and advice. The BFC is hosted and located at the Tamariki Ora Whare at Ora Toa Health Service, 20 Ngatitoa St, Takapuwahia, Porirua. Open every Tuesdays from 10am-1.30pm, NO appointments necessary.

The Pacific Service is available Monday-Friday with two health workers and a registered nurse. They work as Breastfeeding Advocates/Educators and are all Peer Counsellor Programme Administrators to train and provide breastfeeding support for all Pacific women antenatal and postnatal that birth in the Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti maternity facilities. They also support the women in their homes and offer phone/text support.

A particular focus of the CBT is Maori and Pacific women and those with complex BF issues.
