Description

Formerly Northland DHB Orthotic Department

The Whangārei Hospital Orthotic Department has three experienced and qualified orthotists.

Orthotic supports provide assistance in rehabilitation and in the management of disabilities.   The purpose of an orthotic support is to prevent or correct abnormality, to assist or restore function or to immobilise joints, limbs or muscles or to aid healing. The service provides a range of braces and supports from head to toe, accommodative footwear and foot supports and is available to all Northland residents and visitors to Northland.

To access this service you will require an orthotic prescription (referral). Your GP will need to refer you to one of the following:

  • Orthopaedic surgeon (Public or Private) or other specialist (Public or Private).
  • Hospital based physiotherapist, occupational therapist or podiatrist (note: limited prescribing rights).

Referral Expectations

We require a referral from a hospital or private specialist.

Fees and Charges Description

Any charge will be discussed with you at the time of the appointment.

People referred privately will be required to pay the full cost.

People referred by a hospital specialist may be required to pay a contribution towards the cost of any support provided.
